DUALITY: Dance Ballet of India

Dance Ballet of India

Portland's dance maven and renowned choreographer Jayanthi Raman brings an illustrious team of international dancers and musicians to the Newmark Theatre for an evening of musical dance theatre.

With an international cast of professional dancers from Delhi, Chennai and the U.S., the performance features Indian dance forms Bharatha Natyam and the martial arts-based dance form Chhau, as well as local Modern dancers in an elegant contemporary dance production.

This Mother’s Day weekend, choreographer-producers Donna and Hannah Bontrager re-imagine the centerpiece of the 1001 Nights with a Ballet Fantastique twist in an all-new Aladdin. Follow our indomitable hero, not through the golden age of legends, but rather through the turbulent 1970s in a provocative and playful version of this oft-told tale. With Satin Love Orchestra’s showstopping versions of the classic anthems of Queen, and the set design of brilliant Eugene-based designer Don Carson, Aladdin delivers all the color and tumult of the ‘70s, BFan style.

The Snow Queen

Snow Queen

Artistic Director Toni Pimble’s new full-length ballet of Hans Christian Anderson’s The Snow Queen is a heart-warming tale set in a wintery land where Gerda uses the power of love to rescue Kay from the Snow Queen’s cold-hearted influence. Toni’s powerful choreography is set to new music commissioned from award-winning Portland-based composer Kenji Bunch, and performed by Orchestra Next.
