MAHLER (arr.SIMON) Symphony No. 4
Experience the intertwining worlds of symphony and song. Maestro Kuo starts the concert from the piano as he accompanies soprano Rachel Sterrenberg for four Mozart songs, including the solo cantata composed five months before Mozart’s death, with text focusing on ideals important to Mozart, including the importance of friendship and brotherhood to create a new age of peace. Then with a chamber orchestration of Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, inspired from a song, musically explore the journey from experience to innocence, complexity to simplicity, and earthly life to heaven.
A pre-concert talk will take place in Room 163 (next to Beall Hall). The talk begins at 6:45 p.m.
