Interplay is a collaborative performance event between the Eugene Ballet and the University of Oregon, Dance Department. The idea behind Interplay is not only to work collaboratively with dancers and choreographers from both organizations but to give both our audiences an opportunity to experience dance in the “up close” environment of the Soreng Theater at the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.

Three faculty from the University of Oregon Dance Department will present choreography on the program in which they will have the opportunity to work not only with dancers from the U. of O. but also with EB dancers.

Head Chair, Department of Dance Steven J. Chatfield will present a duet with U of O dancers, Bach-to-Bach. Associate Professor of Dance, Walter Kennedy will blend the talents of EB and U of O dancers in Whorl, to music composed by U of O Dance Department Music Director, Christian Cherry. Instructor of Dance, Sarah Ebert is no stranger to Eugene Ballet having choreographed works both for EB students and on three of EB performances including a collaboration between EB and the Oregon Bach Festival. Sarah will create a new work for two EB and two U of O dancers.

EB resident choreographer, Suzanne Haag will reprise her successful work The Surrounding Third for EB dancers, EB Artistic Director, Toni Pimble will stage the sensual pas de deux from her contemporary ballet Common Ground to music of James Oliverio and, Associate Artistic Director, Jennifer Martin will stage the Don Quixote Grand Pas de Deux showcasing the technical tour de force of EB principal dancers.

The culmination of the program is an immersive work created by EB resident choreographer, Suzanne Haag and Associate Professor of Dance, Shannon Mockli. They will work together to create a piece with dancers from both organizations to the music of Maurice Ravel and showing the talents and sensibilities of dancers from both organizations inspired by dancer Isadora Duncan.
