MOZART                                                                 Symphony No. 41 in C Major, K. 551, “Jupiter”

The OMP season closes with ebullient joy of vibrant youth and exhilarating pieces. The works of Chinese-born American composer Zhou Tian have been described as “absolutely beautiful” and “utterly satisfying,” and Joy does not disappoint in this OMP collaboration with senior string players from the Eugene Springfield Youth Orchestra. The infusion of young talent continues with yet-to-be determined solos performed by the 2018 winners of our Young Soloist Competition with OMP. The evening, and season, concludes with one of Mozart’s greatest achievements, the “Jupiter” Symphony, named so by a colleague of the composer who was convinced the piece would achieve immortality.

A pre-concert talk will take place in Room 163 (next to Beall Hall). The talk begins at 6:45 p.m.
